Liza Soberano is back in the spotlight and hinting at an upcoming project with her former love team partner Enrique Gil.
The two are reportedly working on a concept aimed at pushing the boundaries of Filipino cinema, according to Soberano during an interview on February 7 at a product launch in Makati City.
“We’re trying to come up with the concept that we can do together in the future,” Soberano shared. “I cannot guarantee it is in the next year, the concept needs to be fleshed out. It is something new.”
Soberano, who recently returned to the Philippines, expressed her openness to doing a television series again if a compelling concept comes her way. “I’m just looking for anything that really excites me and really kakaiba,” she said.
Both Soberano and Gil have ventured into production. In 2024, Gil produced his first film, while Soberano launched her own production company. Gil starred in the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry ‘Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Hospital Killer Hospital,’ which performed well during its theatrical run.
Soberano, on the other hand, has been vocal about wanting roles outside of the typical romantic genre, which led her to voice the lead character in Netflix’s animated series ‘Trese’ (2021). The show was based on the popular graphic novel by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo.
Soberano moved to the United States in 2022 to pursue an acting career in Hollywood. She appeared in the 2024 film ‘Lisa Frankenstein.’ While the movie did not perform well commercially, critics lauded Soberano’s performance, describing her as a “scene-stealer.”
Her Hollywood journey also includes being a jury member at the Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival in 2024. She is set to star in the coming-of-age drama ‘Patron Saints of Nothing’ alongside Brandon Perea and Jon Jon Briones. The film is based on the award-winning novel by Randy Ribay.
As Soberano continues her global career, she is also making strides in the local entertainment scene. Fans are excited about the possibility of seeing her and Gil collaborate once again, with both stars promising new and innovative content for Filipino audiences.
With her growing presence on the global stage, including her membership in the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), Soberano is poised to take on even more diverse and exciting roles in the years ahead.
